Emerging Dragons

With the current cricket season quickly drawing towards an end, planning is in place at Willetton District Cricket Club for 2020/2021. We are launching our 'Emerging Dragons' programme to introduce capable young cricketers to district cricket, with the intention of attracting a healthy crop of players to our pre-season try-outs in March for our U/13 and U/14 teams. It is important to note that both these competitions are played on a Sunday afternoon (nine one-day matches spread across the season) and players generally play district cricket in addition to club cricket, so there will be no negative impact on your club numbers.

Though district boundaries do not apply to the WACA under age competitions, your club falls within the WDCC boundaries (for senior players) or probably has players who reside within them. It is for this reason that we invite you to inform your current U/12, and U/13 coaches of the Emerging Dragons programme, so as they may identify players that show some potential and have an interest in district cricket, as well as encourage them to attend. It is important to note that District Cricket is an elite competition where more emphasis is placed on performance, over participation. It is for this reason that we discourage clubs from sending players from younger age groups, as it is unlikely they will be chosen for our squads.  Secondly, as facilities are limited, we ask that only the best few players are encouraged to attend.

The sessions will take place at Burrendah Reserve from 5pm until 6.30pm on the Monday afternoons of March 14, 21 and 28, 2017 and will involve coaching from our 2015/2016 U/13's and U14's and U15’s coaches, as well as other club senior coaches.  It will also give players a taste of what district cricket is like.   The contact for the Emerging Dragons programme is Rob Blazevich (rashelblaz@hotmail.com), who will be able to clarify any questions related to the programme. All those intending to participate MUST contact Rob to register their interest no later than Sunday 6th March 2017.

Willetton District Cricket Club seeks to foster positive relations with junior clubs and hopes that you may distribute this information to the relevant coaches and players.

Yours truly,
